Misc Options
MOSTLY DONE... proofread please. Also, I'm not sure what "Region Equivalents Overlap" actually does.
Use OSC
Default: Disabled
This option enables Ardour's implementation of the Open Sound Control protocol. This allows other programs to control various aspects of Ardour's interface. The specifics of using OSC are documented in the OSC Control section.
For more general information about OSC, visit http://opensoundcontrol.org.
New plugins are active
Default: Enabled
Enabling this option will cause newly-created plugins to be activated immediately. This is usually safe when using plugins which are known to be relatively stable.
Rec-enable says engaged at stop
Default: Disabled
When enabled, this option keeps Ardour in Record-Enabled mode even after the transport has been stopped. When disabled, Ardour will disengage Record-Enabled mode when recording has stopped.
Region equivalents overlap
Never used this one.
Make periodic safety backups
Default: Enabled
This option causes Ardour to occasionally create a backup of your current session file. The backup will be called session-name.ardour.bak and will be located in the same folder as the primary session file. This file can be opened directly by Ardour, however it is recommended that it be renamed to remove the .bak extension before doing so, to avoid file naming confusion; alternately, one could open the .bak file directly and immediately create a session snapshot.
Verify remove last capture
Default: Enabled
When enabled, this option will cause a verification message to be displayed when the "Remove Last Capture" action is selected from the Edit menu.
Stop recording on xrun
Default: Disabled
This option will cause Ardour to stop rolling when an xrun is encountered if Record-Enable mode is engaged. Xruns typically cause audible glitches, so in some circumstances it is desirable to stop recording altogether if one is encountered.
Create marker at xrun location
Default: Enabled
When enabled, this option will cause Ardour to create a marker each time an xrun is detected while recording. This is useful to for inspecting the recorded audio for audible glitches.
Stop transport at session end
Default: Enabled
This option causes the transport to stop when it reaches the "End" marker. When recording, this setting is ignored (i.e., Ardour will always continue to record indefinitely until stopped manually).
-12dB gain reduce ffwd/rewind
Default: Enabled
This option causes a 12dB cut to be applied to playback when fast-forwarding or rewinding.
Primary Clock delta to edit point
Default: Disabled
This option causes the Primary Clock to become a delta clock; that is, the time displayed is the difference between the playhead and edit point.
Secondary Clock delta to edit point
Default: Disabled
This option causes the Secondary Clock to become a delta clock; that is, the time displayed is the difference between the playhead and edit point.
Always copy imported files
Default: Disabled
This option causes the Import action in the Session menu to always copy the source files into the current project directory.
Use narrow mixer strips
Default: Disabled
This option causes new tracks and busses to be created in "Narrow" mode. The width of the strips can be changed to normal using the Strip Width button.
Link Region/Track selection
Default: Disabled
When enabled, this setting causes the track selection to follow the region selection; That is, when one or multiple regions are selected, the tracks which contain them will also be selected. When this setting is disabled, the track selection and region selection will be independent of each other.
Name New Markers
Default: Disabled
Enabling this option will cause a prompt to appear when each new marker is created, asking for a name for the marker. When disabled, the markers will be given the generic name "markx", where x is a number which is incremented for each new marker.
Rubberbanding Snaps to Grid
Default: Disabled
This option causes the TimeFX tool to snap to the current grid setting like the other Editor tools.
Auto-analyse new audio
Deafult: Disabled
This will cause newly imported audio to be immediately analysed for waveform display. When this option is disabled, new audio will not be analysed until it is placed in the timeline.
