Transport

The Transport menu has many operations which affect the playhead location and speed.

It may seem strange to have a "menu" for operations which are also presented as buttons on the main window.  However the menu also provides less-commonly used (but useful) features, and it serves as a convenient way to learn key shortcuts for the transport features.  (you can change key shortcuts using the Keybindings window)

The majority of the features should be self-explanatory.

Some options such as Time Master, Punch In/Out, Auto Play, Auto Return, and Click are discussed in the chapters about the Transport Toolbar and Misc Buttons.

Follow Playhead:  if this option is on, then the ardour editing canvas will move so that the playhead is always visible

Stationary Playhead:  if this option is enabled, then the ardour editing canvas will smoothly scroll, while the playhead stays stationary on top.  (this feature is experimental and can be quite slow on some systems)
